# Ever Gauzy

Open business platform with employee time tracking, HR and scheduling, and an official 323-tool MCP server.

Ever Gauzy is an AGPL business-management platform: employee time and activity tracking, HRM, time-off approvals, schedules and appointments, projects and tasks, CRM, invoicing and more, with desktop timer apps. The Builder ships a REST API with Swagger and an MCP server package (@gauzy/mcp-server, apps/mcp) in the same monorepo. Scheduling is one module among many.

Alternative to: Hubstaff, BambooHR

- Capabilities: adaptable, operable
- Vertical: scheduling-staffing
- Shape: business-app
- Form factor: web-app
- Execution model: deterministic
- Provenance: mixed (recorded, never ranked)
- Repo: https://github.com/ever-co/ever-gauzy (AGPL-3.0), 4361 stars, last commit 2026-09-02
- Last activity: 2026-09-02

## Use it when

- I run an agency with contractors and want time tracking, time-off and invoicing under one roof I control
- I want my agent to log time, plan the day and update tasks for the team through MCP

## Gotchas

- AGPL-3.0 copyleft
- Breadth is the cost: this is an ERP; scheduling and staffing are two modules of dozens, and production compose pulls PostgreSQL, Redis, OpenSearch, MinIO, Jitsu, Cube and Zipkin
- The API refuses to start on blank or default secrets (README Production section)
- MCP tool counts in packages/mcp-server/README.md were last updated 2025-08-05
- Hosted app.gauzy.co is labelled alpha and 'use it cautiously'

## Editions

- Self-hosted: Free, open source
  - source: https://github.com/ever-co/ever-gauzy
  - container: docker-compose up -d
  - binary: https://web.gauzy.co/downloads
- Gauzy SaaS (alpha): Free, open source
  - hosted: https://app.gauzy.co

## Adaptable: make it yours

Effort: config-only (20 things to edit)

Copy .env.sample to .env (or edit .env.compose for Docker) and set the four secrets the API refuses to start without: JWT_SECRET, JWT_REFRESH_TOKEN_SECRET, JWT_VERIFICATION_TOKEN_SECRET, EXPRESS_SESSION_SECRET. Then DB_TYPE and DB_ORM, API_BASE_URL and CLIENT_BASE_URL, branding (APP_NAME, APP_LOGO), and the OAuth pairs you need. Modules, roles and organization settings are configured in the UI. The full stack (OpenSearch, MinIO, Redis, Cube, Jitsu) is optional but heavy.

- Env vars: JWT_SECRET, JWT_REFRESH_TOKEN_SECRET, JWT_VERIFICATION_TOKEN_SECRET, EXPRESS_SESSION_SECRET, DB_TYPE, DB_ORM, API_BASE_URL, CLIENT_BASE_URL, APP_NAME, APP_LOGO, REDIS_URL, GOOGLE_CLIENT_ID, GOOGLE_CLIENT_SECRET, MICROSOFT_CLIENT_ID, MICROSOFT_CLIENT_SECRET
- Config files: .env.sample, .env.compose, .env.local, docker-compose.yml, docker-compose.demo.yml
- Prompt files: none
- Accounts you'll need: none

## Operable: what an agent can drive

Operability: official. Interface: mcp at https://github.com/ever-co/ever-gauzy/tree/develop/packages/mcp-server (published by the builder, both).

### Reach (partial coverage)

- Start and stop the time tracker: reachable. packages/mcp-server README: Timer & Time Tracking (3 tools)

- Daily planning for people and teams: reachable. mcp-server README: Daily Planning (17 tools)
- Manage contacts, clients and leads: reachable. mcp-server README: Organization Contacts (17 tools)
- Review timesheets and activity reports: undetermined. not among the categories shown in the mcp-server README excerpt; REST API at api.gauzy.co/docs likely covers it
- Time-off requests and approvals: undetermined. module exists per README feature list; MCP tool coverage not confirmed
- Schedules, appointments and events: undetermined. module exists per README feature list; MCP tool coverage not confirmed
- Invoices, estimates and payments: undetermined. module exists; not in the MCP categories seen; REST Swagger likely covers it
- Screenshots and activity monitoring from the desktop timer: not reachable. captured by the Electron desktop timer app, not by an API call

## Code stack

- Languages: TypeScript

- Prompts live in: none
- Tools: AuthTool, TimerTool, ProjectTool, employee tools, task tools, daily plan tools, organization contact tools

## Evidence and confidence

- formFactor: README: Angular web UI plus NestJS API, Electron desktop apps also offered (confidence 0.95)
- executionModel: core platform has no model at runtime; AI integrations are optional (confidence 0.85)

- effort: .env.sample in repo; README names the required secrets and .env.compose (confidence 0.8)
- editions: README: AGPL self-host, downloads page, app.gauzy.co SaaS alpha; no pricing found on docs.gauzy.co (confidence 0.6)

## Open questions

- Which of the 22 MCP tool categories cover timesheets, time-off and appointments? Read the MCP Tool Reference on docs.gauzy.co
- Is there pricing for the hosted SaaS once it leaves alpha?
- Provenance marked mixed only because AGENTS.md exists at the repo root
