# HyperFrames

Write HTML, render deterministic MP4; a video framework whose primary interface is agent skills and a CLI.

HeyGen's open-source framework turns HTML, CSS, media, and seekable animations into video. Twenty skills teach a coding agent to plan, write, lint, preview, and render compositions; the CLI does the same by hand. Local rendering is free; HeyGen-hosted cloud rendering and AWS Lambda are the scale-out paths.

- Capabilities: adaptable, operable
- Vertical: video-streaming
- Shape: product
- Form factor: cli
- Execution model: deterministic
- Provenance: unknown (recorded, never ranked)
- Repo: https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes (Apache-2.0), 43734 stars, last commit 2026-09-03
- Last activity: 2026-09-03
- Page: apps/heygen-com--hyperframes.html
- JSON: apps/heygen-com--hyperframes.json

## Use it when

- I want my agent to make product promos and explainers as HTML I can read and diff, not a proprietary project file
- I need deterministic batch renders from templates and want to run them on Lambda or HeyGen's cloud

## Gotchas

- A non-interactive `skills add` without --skill installs all 20 skills; agents should use `npx hyperframes skills update` for the core set
- The skills.sh registry can lag main by hours
- Renders need Chromium through Puppeteer; check `hyperframes doctor` first

## Editions

- Free: Free, open source
  - source: https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes
  - installable: npx skills add heygen-com/hyperframes
- Cloud render: Free, closed source
  - hosted: https://hyperframes.heygen.com/

## Adaptable: make it yours

Effort: light-edit (8 things to edit)

A project is a folder with hyperframes.json and an index.html composition; adapting a template means editing the HTML, the data-* timing attributes, and hyperframes.json (schema in docs/schema/hyperframes.json). No env var is required for local use; GEMINI_API_KEY is optional. The skills themselves are Markdown you can edit or extend.

- Env vars: GEMINI_API_KEY
- Config files: hyperframes.json, index.html, .env
- Prompt files: skills/hyperframes/SKILL.md, skills/hyperframes-core/SKILL.md, skills/media-use/SKILL.md, AGENTS.md
- Accounts you'll need: HeyGen account (cloud render only); AWS (Lambda render only)

## Operable: what an agent can drive

Operability: native. Interface: cli at https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes#skills (published by the builder, both).

## Code stack

- Languages: TypeScript, HTML, CSS
- Frameworks: GSAP, Puppeteer, ffmpeg
- Package manager: bun
- Database: none
- Hosting target: local, HeyGen cloud render, AWS Lambda

## Model stack

- Providers: optional Gemini for integrations, any coding agent with skills support
- Models: none
- Keys you need (names only): GEMINI_API_KEY (optional)
- Prompts live in: skills/*/SKILL.md, AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md
- Tools: hyperframes init, lint, check, snapshot, preview, render, publish, doctor, cloud render, lambda deploy/render/progress, hyperframes add

## Skills

bundled: Ships about twenty video-production skills that are the intended way to drive the CLI; a router skill installs the rest on demand.
- Paths: .agents/skills/*/SKILL.md
- Install: npx skills add heygen-com/hyperframes

## Evidence and confidence

- formFactor: README: npx hyperframes CLI plus agent skills; Studio is secondary (confidence 0.9)
- executionModel: README: deterministic MP4 from HTML; models only in optional media generation (confidence 0.75)
- operability: README tagline 'Built for agents'; skills and CLI shipped by heygen-com (confidence 0.95)
- effort: .env.example says no env vars required; hyperframes.json schema in docs/schema; compositions are HTML (confidence 0.85)
- editions: Apache-2.0 LICENSE; README lists HeyGen-hosted cloud rendering; price not in README (confidence 0.7)
- active: GitHub pushedAt 2026-09-03
- reach: (confidence 0.9)

## Open questions

- Cloud render pricing and the auth flow (packages/cli/src/commands/auth.ts, docs/guides/authentication.mdx) were not fetched; record price and env var names
- Provenance: HeyGen has not stated how the framework was written
