InvenTree
Open-source inventory and parts system with a REST API, Python SDK and read-only MCP plugin.
InvenTree is a Python and Django inventory system for parts, stock, suppliers, bills of materials, build orders, and purchase, sales and return orders. The same organization publishes a documented REST API with an OpenAPI schema, a Python SDK, and an MCP plugin that is read-only for now. Global settings and branding can be set in config.yaml or env vars; report templates and plugins cover the rest.
- you track parts, stock and BOMs for a small manufacturing or electronics shop and want your agent to log and query it
- you want purchase and sales orders handled through an API instead of a spreadsheet
- The MCP plugin (inventree/inventree-mcp, 5 stars, created 2026-07) is read-only; the README says write tools have not landed, and plugin support must be turned on first
- API access follows the token user's roles; basic auth is refused for users with MFA
- It is an inventory system. Storefront and checkout come from separate plugins or an outside shop
- AGENTS.md says no pull request without manual human review, and no AI-generated issues

Config only18 things to edit
config.yaml or INVENTREE_* env vars set deployment (site URL, database, email) and also business behavior: INVENTREE_GLOBAL_SETTINGS overrides any global setting and locks it in the UI, INVENTREE_PLUGIN_SETTINGS does the same for plugins, and INVENTREE_CUSTOM_LOGO, INVENTREE_CUSTOM_SPLASH and INVENTREE_CUSTOMIZE set branding and login messages. The same settings can be changed in the admin, and report and label templates are edited in the app. Custom behavior beyond settings means writing a Python plugin.

Operable: what an agent can drive
Interface
OfficialAPIpublished by the builderlocal
How an agent can drive an Operable Listing, in five levels: native (built for the agent as the primary interface), official (the Builder ships an agent interface), wrapped (a third party wraps the software's API), config (an agent can only drive it by editing files), gui (screen control only). An interface is official only when it is published by the same organization that ships the software. GUI-level Listings are allowed and sorted last.
