Hippo
Long-term memory for coding agents, in SQLite on your machine, reached over MCP or CLI.
Hippo stores what coding agents learn in a local SQLite store with markdown mirrors. Memories decay unless recalled, errors last longer, and a sleep step merges related ones. Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode and any MCP client share one store through a 13-tool MCP server, the hippo CLI, or an HTTP API.
- you switch between Claude Code, Codex and Cursor and want one shared memory of what each learned
- you want your agent to stop repeating mistakes it already hit in this repo
- hippo init writes hooks to ~/.claude/settings.json and a daily 6:15am cron or scheduled task; use --no-hooks and --no-schedule to skip
- hippo init reads the notes your coding agents keep; use --no-learn to skip
- hippo sleep sends memory text to Anthropic for fact extraction when ANTHROPIC_API_KEY is set, unless extraction is disabled in config
- The README says sleep lowered recall in its own audit, and age-based decay made no measurable difference
- hippo serve needs an API key even from the same machine, and it answers MCP over HTTP only on a store with sharedStore set
- commercial edition is described as planned, not released

Behavior is set in .hippo/config.json. gitLearnPatterns picks which commits become lessons, capture.followUpRules turns on model capture of later rules, agentMemories.tools picks whose notes are imported, and pinnedInject and defaultHalfLifeDays set what reaches the agent and how long it lasts. The memory skill is a prompt file that tells the agent when to recall and remember. These set memory policy, not branding or content.

Operable: what an agent can drive
Interface
NativeMCP serverpublished by the builderremote or local
How an agent can drive an Operable Listing, in five levels: native (built for the agent as the primary interface), official (the Builder ships an agent interface), wrapped (a third party wraps the software's API), config (an agent can only drive it by editing files), gui (screen control only). An interface is official only when it is published by the same organization that ships the software. GUI-level Listings are allowed and sorted last.
