How much of your software can an agent reach?
November 4, 2026
About 71% of it. We checked 1,152 jobs across 121 listings. An agent can reach 818 of them. Only 10 listings let an agent do every job.
What does reach mean?
A job is one thing the software does, like sending an invoice or refunding an order. An agent can reach a job when it can do that job on its own, with no person clicking through the app.
For each listing, we took up to ten main jobs from the builder's own feature list. Then we marked each job yes, no, or not sure.
| Can an agent do it? | Jobs | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Yes | 818 | 71% |
| No | 235 | 20% |
| Not sure | 99 | 9% |
Does an MCP server mean an agent can do everything?
No, and this one surprised us. A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server is a way to plug software into an agent. You'd expect it to be the best way in. Of the three main ways in, it reached the least.
| How the agent connects | Listings | Jobs it can do | Listings with every job |
|---|---|---|---|
| CLI | 13 | 90% | 5 |
| API | 51 | 76% | 5 |
| MCP server | 53 | 63% | 0 |
The gap holds for similar software. Business apps with an MCP server reach 59% of their jobs. Business apps with an API reach 74%. Web apps show the same pattern, at 62% and 74%.
CLIs look best, but that group is small. Only 13 listings use one, and 7 of those were built for agents from the start.
So why the gap? We count one main connection for each listing. An MCP server often covers only part of the product, and the rest may sit in the API next to it. On Baserow, automations aren't in the MCP server, but the API has them.
If a job is missing from an MCP server, check the API before you give up on the software.
What can't agents do?
Mostly the setup. Agents do well at creating and reading content. They struggle with settings, permissions, plugins, and reports.
| Kind of job | Agent can do it | Agent can't |
|---|---|---|
| Creating and reading content | 83% | 12% |
| Billing and payments | 67% | 29% |
| Plugins and integrations | 50% | 45% |
| Reports and analytics | 47% | 30% |
| Admin, settings and permissions | 45% | 41% |
We sorted these jobs by keyword, so treat the table as a rough guide. When you plan a workflow, expect a person to handle setup and access. The agent can take the daily work.
Does open source matter?
Not much. Open source listings reach 71% of their jobs, and the rest reach 70%. That second group has only 13 listings, so don't read much into it.
Popular projects don't do much better. Repos with over 10,000 stars reach 74%. Repos with under 1,000 reach 70%.
Which kinds of software do best?
Invoicing and video lead. Support and CRM tools trail.
| Type of software | Listings | Jobs an agent can do |
|---|---|---|
| Invoicing and finance | 15 | 86% |
| Video and streaming | 16 | 84% |
| Notes and knowledge | 16 | 74% |
| Ecommerce | 13 | 71% |
| Agent infrastructure | 4 | 70% |
| Scheduling and staffing | 11 | 67% |
| Content publishing | 16 | 66% |
| SMB ops and CRM | 15 | 60% |
| Support and bookkeeping | 15 | 58% |
Which listings let an agent do every job?
- CGRateS, 9 jobs through its API
- HyperFrames, 10 jobs through its CLI
- Inkvoice, 10 jobs through its API
- Invoice Ninja, 10 jobs through its API
- MediaMTX, 10 jobs through its API
- Medusa, 9 jobs through its API
- OpenMontage, 10 jobs through its CLI
- Shopify Admin Skills, 10 jobs through its CLI
- video-use, 8 jobs through its CLI
- Vox Director, 9 jobs through its CLI
Five are video tools, and most do one thing well. A small tool has less to open up, so this list is partly about size.
What can't these numbers tell you?
- This isn't all software. Every listing is here because an agent can use it. Software in general likely scores lower.
- We read, but we didn't run. We checked docs and source code. No agent tried each job, so a yes can still fail in practice.
- Job lists differ. Each builder's list is different and stops at ten. These numbers compare lists, not products.
- Most records have had no second check. That's 104 of the 129. Another 12 passed one, and 13 have a field someone disputed.
- 99 jobs are a maybe. If they were all yes, the total would be 80%.
- Some groups are small. Treat a row with few listings as a hint.
